Meet the Starfall Pouch!

To celebrate the launch of Starfall, I wanted to tell you how it came to be. I was newly the owner of a very shiny laptop and already loving the freedom to work in libraries and cafes rather than being chained to my desk at home. However, I’ve never been the kind of person who leaves their tech without any protection. So if it was going to travel, my new laptop needed a case!

The black-and-white checkerboard that Starfall grew out of was made of offcuts left over from my Ruby Star Sewist Bee quilt. They seemed too nicely cut and strip-pieced to waste, and then (because I’m me) I just had to add some rainbow to brighten everything up. After that, I added a metallic oil slick zip that has been waiting in my stash for the *right* project, et voila! I had a laptop pouch!

The details

Starfall comes in small, medium, and large and is designed to fit most laptops and tablets (and also kindles, notebooks or particularly small cats*). It can also be customised to any colourway you like - check out the colour inspired blog here for some ideas! It’s a great scrap buster and a fun way to feature all those fabrics you loved but only have a tiny bit left of. And while I chose a super-fun zip, literally any colour you want will work. It’s constructed through strip-piecing which means it comes together super quickly - grab the pattern today and you can easily have a new tech case by Monday!

*No cats were harmed in the making of this laptop case.

Black: Ruby Star Society Mini Starry in Black Gold

White: Ruby Star Society Speckled in Sweet Cream

I never expected to be making a pattern for a pouch I quickly whipped together to protect my laptop from spills and scratches, but the response on Instagram was overwhelming and I couldn’t resist sharing the joy! I hope you love it too - and find it as useful as I do!

Fun fact

I originally called this the Rainbow Laptop Case of Dreams, but decided that was just a wee bit too wordy, so the lovely wordsmith (and incredible talented author) Marianne Gordon stepped in to suggest Starfall and the rest is history!
