Artist Statement
My work begins in a place of hope, using colour and vibrancy to amplify the small glimmers that persist within life’s darker moment. Rooted in quilting’s history as a women’s craft and a communal practice, my work explores connection. I take a modern, abstract approach, using bright, bold colours and geometric forms, layering design elements with intention. Every stage from selecting colour and fabric, to piecing the top, to stitching the layers together, builds toward textural compositions that evoke joy and optimism while inviting viewers to reflect on their own experiences of community and belonging. Guided by the relationship between colour, shape, and mood, I draw inspiration from architecture, natural forms, pattern repeats, and shared motifs. I’m especially drawn to symbols and structures that resonate across language, place, and culture - the threads that remind us of what unifies us.

Threads That Bind
Year: 2021-2022
Medium: Cotton fabric, bamboo batting, cotton thread
Dimensions: 48” x 48”
Short description: Threads That Bind is inspired by the many ways we have developed to build and maintain relationships in the modern world. Some threads bind us closer and more strongly than others while some are short lived and fade, but they all make a lasting impact that helps shape who we are.
Halo
Year: 2024
Medium: Cotton fabric, bamboo batting, cotton thread
Dimensions: 36” x 36”
Short description: Halo is a depiction of how my autism can feel. The concentric circles represent masks - layers that seem perfect from the outside. The dense hand stitching within the inner circle shows how my brain can feel busy and overwhelmed, despite how I present on the outside. The negative space around the outside also shows how my autism can make me feel isolated from others.
Flowers
Year: 2023
Medium: Cotton fabric, bamboo batting, cotton thread
Dimensions: 38” x 38”
Short description: Flower is inspired by both the side profile and overhead view of a bunch of tulips. The curves of the petals both complement and contrast with the circling rings, hinting at the circle of life seen in plants. The contrast between blue and orange makes this a striking composition while softer yellow stamens add a touch of whimsy.
Linework
Year: 2021
Medium: Cotton fabric, bamboo batting, cotton thread
Dimensions: 54” x 54”
Short description: Linework is inspired by the stark visual effects of Op Art. A monochrome labyrinth, Linework encourages the eye to wander along shifting twists and turns of light and dark to find new paths and shapes, while the contrasting threads create the hypnotic illusion of movement.
Shockwave
Year: 2021
Medium: Cotton fabric, bamboo batting, cotton thread
Dimensions: 74” x 67”
Short description: Originally inspired by the widespread devastation caused by earthquakes, Shockwave took on new meaning during the pandemic. Shockwave is a reminder that although we may sometimes feel insignificant, we have a wider impact then we may realise.
Koi Pond
Year: 2023
Medium: Cotton fabric, bamboo batting, cotton thread
Dimensions: 54” x 54”
Short description: Koi Pond is a representation of ripples on a pond. The white circles represent this line between above and below, evoking the blinding light of sunlight reflecting off water’s surface. The different shades of blue create a sense of movement while the yellow corners confine this movement, evoking the quintessentially human yet futile urge to try and exert our control over nature.
Mountain Reflections
Year: 2022-2024
Medium: Cotton fabric, bamboo batting, cotton thread
Dimensions: 45” x 52”
Short description: Mountain Reflections was inspired by peaceful moments of reflection found during hikes in the Scottish Mountains and brings a little of that calm back to modern life. The mountain quilting reflects the contours of maps, evoking anticipation for a return to that calm.
Searching In The Night
Year: 2020
Medium: Cotton fabric, bamboo batting, cotton thread
Dimensions: 21” x 21”
Short description: Searching in the Night is a wholecloth art quilt, made in the early days of the pandemic. The machine-quilted labyrinth represents the sense of loss and confusion many of us felt then, while the hand stitches red route reminds us that while it may waver, there is always hope.
